CASE STUDIES
These selections emphasize my application of Human Experience Design for Healthcare. Included are Consumer Products which either highlight relevant DFM processes or signature work.
NOTE: To maintain discretion, key details have been omitted, generalized, and/or obscured for each case study.

ERGONOMIC EQUIPMENT FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY
CHALLENGES
Develop powered, human-operated equipment for dynamic use in the surgical field.
Work within a startup engineering team to reboot project and start over from the beginning.
OPPORTUNITIES
Due to a previous launch failure, engineering leadership was receptive to:
(1) User Needs driven process to develop customer and product requirements
(2) User Experience Design to co-lead design development with little restrictions.
OUTCOMES
Reduced development cost and lead time through low fidelity, generative design.
Final design proposal resonating with the audience; improving "acceptability" from previous product score of 2.3 (out of 10) to 7.4 (out of 10).

ANESTHESIOLOGIST & NURSE EQUIPMENT FOR PERIOPERATIVE CARE
CHALLENGES
Development of new, acquired technology for an aggressive product launch timeline.
Working with program leadership and technical teams to champion user needs.
RISKS
A program structured and driven by time, engineering, and business needs rather than user needs.
Third party development resources with conflicting interests and significant influence to leadership.
OUTCOMES
Customer and product requirements.
Leveraging unmet needs and user insights to drive recommendations for critical device issues, patient safety, and business oversight.

ON-BODY DEVICES FOR PATIENT THERAPIES
CHALLENGES
Working with technical, cross-functional development team to adjust device design to better address customer needs within aggressive timelines.
OUTCOMES
Incorporated user-centered design adjustments to better address user needs into late-stage design proposals.
Improved awareness and appreciation for user-centered design with other technical teams.

EXAMINATION OF A UNIVERSAL HANDHELD DRUG DELIVERY DEVICE
CHALLENGES
Supporting a design program which spanned several years, included numerous design research activities, and required collaboration with several design consultants in order to continuously distill findings and question hypotheses.
OUTCOMES
A viable thesis for a universal design platform of a single-dose, self-injection, handheld device.

ARMBAND PLATFORM DESIGN FOR PERSONAL MOBILE DEVICES
CHALLENGES
Develop an original, in-house design for entry into key, competitive product category.
OUTCOMES
Innovative solution addressing customer needs.
A design platform which has been adapted for generations of arbands, improved brand equity, and protected key accounts.
A standard of armband design as evidenced by numerous imitations.
YETI USB MICROPHONE
CHALLENGES
Translating the brand personality and promise of a well-known studio recording brand to enter into a new digital category with an entirely new target audience.
OUTCOMES
A design icon and arguably the most recognizable and popular USB microphone in the country.
Continued, sustained growth with 500k units sold in 2019 after 2010 launch.
A family line of Yeti products, custom skus, new retail channel partnerships, and expansion into adjacent industries (entertainment, media, vlogging, podcasting, gaming, sports commentating, influencer streaming, etc).
